Our Philosophy

Nurtured State Collective is dedicated to supporting young people and their families overcome mental health conditions that are complex and enduring, such as eating disorders, personality vulnerabilities and emotional distress. We specialise in using only the most evidence based treatments such as Family Based Treatment for Eating Disorders (which aims to assist caregivers to support their child through to recovery) and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy.

We understand that eating disorders in particular, are very complex and serious, with Anorexia Nervosa having the highest mortality rate of any psychiatric illness. We also understand that specialised treatment started as early as possible can greatly reduce the severity and duration of the illness and have more positive outcomes. Eating disorders are highly treatable illnesses with the right support. Treatment takes a big commitment AND it’s worth it. At Nurtured State Collective, we are highly skilled and committed to supporting families along the road to recovery by transforming the way young people view their body and relationship with food.

Collaboration is key to recovery. Nurtured State Collective forms part of the treatment team, alongside the G.P, paediatrician or psychiatrist. The treatment team may also include a dietician. Consultation can also involve the education department if required.

Nurtured State is also dedicated to supporting other professionals deliver evidence based practice across Australia via supervision and offers workshops to schools covering a range of topics including body image, self-care and responding to self harm.

Our Values

Empowerment

At Nurtured State Collective we acknowledge the road to recovery from complex mental health conditions can be hard.

We strive to expertly guide young people and their families along the way with a treatment plan we develop, utilising one’s strengths and inner resources that will guide and build capacity for recovery.

Collaboration

We all thrive when we work together with the collective goal of recovery. Best practice means having a treatment team that communicate well with clear roles and responsibilities. Young people’s safety is our priority and this is achieved when communication with their treating team i.e. GP/Paediatrician/Psychiatrist/Dietician/school, occur regularly or when necessary.

Integrity

We believe in providing best treatment by competent and skilled therapists who take responsibility for their own practice.  Our accredited allied health clinicians are encouraged to join memberships and be credentialed in providing treatment.

We strive to continue our  professional development to maintain best practice.

Respect

We, Nurtured State Collective, today and everyday acknowledge the land that we meet and connect through, in nipaluna/Hobart and the Traditional Custodians of country throughout Australia and their connections to land, sea and community.

In lutruwita/Tasmania, we acknowledge this is the land of the muwinina (mou wee nee nar) and palawa (pronounced pal-a-wa) people who knew this land, lived on this land, and continue to survive and thrive on this land. We stand for a future that acknowledges the deep history of this land, and profoundly respects Aboriginal culture, language and perspectives of those emerging. We respect the traditional landowners.

We identify with the Health At Every Size (HAES) philosophy, which promotes a holistic and non-judgmental view of health and wellbeing, and celebrates human diversity, encompassing body size, sexual orientation, gender identification and ethnicity.

Accountability

At Nurtured State Collective, we take responsibility for our practice. This means, we adhere to our professional  guidelines and legal requirements. We declare conflicts of interest and uphold people’s rights to privacy and confidentiality, including its limitations. We make explicit our services, safety and risks associated with mental health conditions. Consent can be withdrawn at any time.

Innovation

At Nurtured State Collective, we acknowledge the limited options for mental health treatment and thus strive to promote better access while maintaining evidence based practice.

We continually aim to create treatment that is innovative and far reaching especially in these COVID times to better meet the needs of the families and communities we serve.
